Streszczenie

The monograph offers a synthetic approach to state-of-the-art surface texturing with a focus on the formation process and the properties of the surface layer. In the introduction, the author observes that the advances in the beam technologies have enabled effective processing in microregions and, accordingly, surface texture modeling. These technologies are being used in various applications more and more extensively. Particular attention is paid to useful textured surfaces in tribological applications. The concept of texture may refer to the surface (surface texture) as well as the material volume (volumetric texture), but the considerations here apply to textures produced on the surface only. The next chapters deal with mathematical models of the friction process and flow phenomena, the solutions of which were applied to conduct numerical simulations for sliding pairs with textured surfaces. The simulation results can be used to develop concepts of extremely loaded friction joints. The author suggests that the simulation results should be verified by experimental analysis using the mathematical planning method. The chapter about the methods of texture shaping focuses on three beam-based technologies, i.e. laser processing, electrical discharge machining and thermal spraying. These technologies can be used to shape both surface and volumetric textures. The most important aspects of the formation process and the tribological properties are discussed. In laser processing, surface textures can be shaped by local hardening or via drilling, while volumetric textures can be generated by remelting thermally sprayed or electrical discharge machined coatings. In electrical discharge machining, surface textures can be produced by applying the EDM method, whereas volumetric textures can be in the form of multi-layer coatings that make the lapping operation easier or constitute an interlayer to improve the adhesion of the bearing alloy layer. Plasma spraying and HVOF processes have been used mainly to thermally produce volumetric textures in the form of solid lubricant coatings and antiwear coatings.
